Graduated 1982 with a BS Degree in Wildlife Biology/Forest Management
from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas U.S.A.
Started programming career in early 1980's programming Kaypro PC's
with the CP/M operating system using CONDOR RDBMS development
software. Took computing career seriously in 1988/'89 and received
a computer programming diploma from Bryan Institute in Arlington,
Texas U.S.A. where I learned COBOL and RPG on an IBM system 36.
Worked 7 years for an insurance company writing MSDOS/COBOL and
INFORMIX/UNIX applications. Have worked the last couple years as
a consultant for a small firm in Dallas, Texas servicing clients in the Paging
Industry.
At this time a got heavy into AWK script programming to supplement
my INFORMIX 4GL/SQL development, since I found it more efficient to
create reports from ascii files rather than through a database engine.
A friend (and coworker) introduced me to Perl about that time. We had
a friendly competition ongoing as to whether Perl was better, or Awk was
better, and faster! I loved Awk, he loved Perl. I still love Awk, but I became
intrigued with Perl when I learned I could use OLE and ODBC and GUI
extensions to really juice-up my scripts. So I have been doing a lot of
Perl Win32 development since January of 1999, and am loving it.
In my free time you can find me on the tennis court or the golf course.
And yes, I still love animals. I have 3 cats, and watch Animal Planet
the cable channel.
